How much weight can I expect to lose?
For patients with gastric sleeve, you can expect to lose about 60% of your excess weight. Gastric bypass patients can expect to lose about 70%. These numbers are based on adherence to your diet and exercise plans.
Will I have any out-of-pocket costs?
This is dependent on your insurance. You may have co-pays and deductibles depending on your specific plan. Contact your insurance company early on to find out your coverage.
What will my incisions look like?
You will have 5-7 small incisions, each about the width of a dime. They are closed with internal sutures that dissolve by themselves, and surgical glue on the outside of your skin that peels off on its own in 1-2 weeks.
How long is my recovery?
You will be back to your normal self in about 6 weeks. If you do not do hard physical labor you can return to work in 1 week. If you do hard physical labor, you can return to work in about 4 weeks.
Do I have to be on vitamin supplementation?
Gastric sleeve patients do not typically require lifelong vitamins, however gastric bypass patients do require frequent blood work and vitamins for life.
